Never had I been so sick. Fever just hit without warning and I was down for a couple of days.
It started with massive trembling and I simply blamed it on the weather. How dumb could I get. I hung on and kept on working until I finally found time to consult a doctor. By then, I was already at 38.5 deg C. I was so cold, it never occurred that I was having fever.
Popped some pills, sweat like a pig, felt better, and the trembling started again shortly after. The fan was off, the windows were shut, I was under a bloody thick blanket but yet I was shivering until I could bite off my tongue. This continued for a day before I went to another doctor. Just a couple of hours prior, I started to vomit. Mostly gastric juices, since I could barely put anything into my mouth. I told the doctor that my fever had subsided, but I was puking and aching all over. To both our surprise, the fever hit 40.3 deg C. No wonder I did not feel cold anymore!
I had taken paracetamol and am allergic to aspirin hence the clinic's doctor could not offer me anything but advise me to monitor my temperature and head to the hospital if the fever persists.
I measured myself every half and hour and prayed hard. Great, the temperature was dropping. Who knows, the fever was playing its little game. At midnight, the shivering returned and haunted me. Okay that's it-- 40.4 deg C, and off we went to the hospital. In my mind, I could not stop wondering if the fever would fry my brain? Would I collapse and become a retard? Would I be paralyzed or lose my memory? If something really happens, will the people I love know about it? Will my parents know who to inform? All these stupid questions suddenly became so real.
When you have a fever this high, they will naturally check for Dengue Fever. They took my X-ray, drew my blood, gave me a jab, put me on a drip. I was so tired already. Lucky me, it wasn't Dengue but the doctor couldn't tell what exactly happened. He said "There must be an infection somewhere." Bravo, how informative. Anyway, I have to go back for review after I finish those antibiotics.
